MRS. TOM (ELIZABETH) SHERMAN

Elizabeth Lelah Darrow, daughter of Frank and Jennie Darrow, was born on a farm near Canton, South Dakota, on September 28, 1888. She was one of eleven children.

Mrs. Sherman attained adulthood and received her education in rural schools in South Dakota.

On October 10, 1906, she was united in marriage to Tom Sherman at Beresford, South Dakota.  Ten children were born to this union.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman farmed in Missouri until 1911, when they moved to Richardson County, Nebraska.  After several years they moved to the Peru community where they have resided for over forty-five years. 

Mrs. Sherman had been a member of the Brownville Christian Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, on October 23, 1967, her parents, one son, two brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Sherman was taken to the Nemaha County Hospital April 10, 1972, where she passed away on May 8, 1972, at the age of 83 years, seven months and twenty days.

Those left to mourn her passing are five sons: Earl, of Freeport, Illinois; Harold and Roland of Peru; Tom Jr. of Marquette, Nebraska; and Henry of Pierre, South Dakota. Four surviving daughters are: Mrs. Dick (Hazel) Ebbinga, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mrs. Ray (Ethel) Allgood, Mrs. Carl (Carrie) Henry, and Mrs. Otis (Mayme) Adams, all of Peru, Nebraska.

Also surviving are fifty grandchildren; fifty-five great-grandchildren; twenty-three step-grandchildren; four brothers, Ralph Darrow, of Oregon, Harvey Darrow, Ernest Darrow and Frank Darrow, all of Centerville, South Dakota; three sisters, Retta Sherman of Vermillion, South Dakota, Ida Severance of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Lulu Savery of Seattle, Washington; one uncle, Virgile Millage of Esteline, South Dakota; other relatives and many friends.

Interment: Mt. Vernon Cemetery—Peru, Nebraska
