Hans & Christine Jorgensen
HANS PETER JORGENSEN was born January 24, 1881 in Gedesby, Maribo, Denmark to
JORGEN SIMONSEN, and died 1965 in Viborg, Turner Co., SD. He married CHRISTINE
RASMUSSEN on January 06, 1910, daughter of MADS RASMUSSEN and ANE THOMASEN.
She was born April 21, 1888 in Holbęk, Denmark, and died November 05, 1975 in
Viborg, Turner Co., SD.
Hans Peter Jorgensen served one year in the Danish Army.
He first came to the U.S. on the SS Baltic; arriving at Ellis Island on March
25th, 1905 at 24 years of age. He spent time with relatives in Oshkosh Wisconsin
doing furniture woodwork between 1905 & 1909. He then returned to Denmark
to escort his bride-to-be back to the U.S. They left Liverpool England on June
19th and arrived at Ellis Island on June 25th, 1909, aboard the Lusitania.
Hans and Christine had three sons, Orvald, Arnie, & Elmer. "Pete"
farmed in Turner & Yankton counties until his retirement.
