Jager, Ruth Mrs. Al

Hawarden - Mrs. AI Jager, 69, Hawarden, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Hawarden Hospital.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m, Thursday in the Dow Funeral Home. The Rev. Heston Milligan officiated. Burial was in Eden Cemetery at Hudson, S.D.

 

Jager, Roy Lee

Roy Lee Jager Sr., 41, of Hawarden died Friday, July 6, at the Sioux Falls Veterans Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at the American Lutheran Church, Hawarden. The Rev. Robert Hansen officiated. Burial was in the Eden Cemetery, Hudson, S.D., under the direction of the Dow Funeral Home of Hawarden.

Mr. Jager was born Oct. 28, 1937, in Sioux County. He married Mary Richter on July 23, 1976, in Elk Point, S.D.

He was employed at Everist Sand and Gravel Co., Hawarden.

Survivors include the widow; five sons, Jamie and Jody, both of Hawarden, Randy and Bobby, both of Sheldon, and Roy Jr. of Canton, S.C.; three daughters, Jennifer of Hawarden and Julie and Debbie, both of Sheldon; his father, Al of Hawarden, and two brothers, Harold of Hudson and Frank of Glascow, Mont.

Johnson, Sadie Miss

Funeral services were held for Miss Sadie Johnson, 84, Hudson, S.D. December 3rd at the Hudson Lutheran Church at l0:00 a.m. with the Revs. John Heruth and Eric Eden Sallman officiating. Burial was at Eden Cemetery in Hudson with Van De More Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Miss Johnson was born February 13, l886 in Lincoln County. She attended rural Lincoln County Schools and Augustana College in Canton. She taught school in Lincoln and Sioux Counties. She lived in Sioux City from l93l to l96l. She lived in the Alcester Nursing Home until her death on November 30th.
Survivors include her brother, John M. of Canton and nieces and nephews

 

Mr. Knutson, age 66, died Tuesday at a Yankton, S.D. hospital. Funeral services were held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church at Hudson with the Rev. Milo Sheldon officiating. Pallbearers were: Terry Twedt, Robert Torkelson, T. E. Quarnstrom, Charles Scott, Merton Turner and Darrell Sogn. Honorary pallbearers were: Paul Scott, Delbert Fowles, Charles Fowles, Floyd Torkelson, Raymond Nitz and Bailey Horner. Burial was at the Eden Cemetery, Hudson, S.D.

Norman Severn Knutson was born December 8, 1909 to Bertha and Ole Knutson at Vilas, S.D. In 1913 the family moved to Hawarden, Iowa. Norman attended public school in Hawarden. He also attended Morningside College at Sioux City, Iowa and the CCC Camp at Minnesota and Arkansas. On August 27, 1935 he was united in marriage with Doris Twedt at South Sioux City, Nebraska. They were the parents of one daughter, Karen. In 1941, Norman began farming in Eden Township near Hudson and continued with this work until 1973 when he retired because of failing health. In September of 1975 the Knutsons moved to Vermillion to make their home. Norman was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hudson, Jeptha Lodge, AF & AM of Hudson, York Rite Masons and the Sioux Falls El Riad Shrine.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Vermillion, S.D.; one daughter, Karen (Mrs. George Ferris) of Vermillion, S.D., and one grandson, Mark; three sisters: Helen (Mrs. W. J. Weir) of Hudson, S.D., Tillie (Mrs. Carroll Pletcher) and Lillian (Mrs. R. C. O'Hair), both of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from the First Congregational church at Hudson Monday afternoon. Mr. Larkin was connected with the Farmers Elevator Company here many years ago.

Lamb, Mary Mrs. Clarence

Mrs. C. A. Lamb died at 8 o'clock Tuesday Morning, of typhoid fever, at her home in this city. Mrs. Lamb had been very ill for several weeks and her death had been looked for for some days. She was a good Crhistian, a fond mother and a loving wife, and the whole community mourns her untimely death. She leaves a husband and two children and numerous other sorrowing relatives.
(This was found to be Mrs. Clarence A. Lamb as found in evidence in the 1900 census where her husband Clarence was living in Lyon County IA with wife of 2 years Genevieve. There were three children two from a previous marriage, Ellise 1884 and Floy? 1889, and one from his current marriage. Further found on ancestry that Clarence A. Lamb born Apr 1859 in Canada married Mary Ellen Palmer born 28 May 1864 Waterloo IA, died 18 Sep 1896 Iowa (? S. D.) One child was listed Mae Lamb b. 1885-1953. Mary's parents were John Palmer 1831-19__ and Louisa Jeffreys 1829-1918.)

 

Lange, A. W.’s daughter

Hudson news.
The little four-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Lange, died last Friday night after having been a sufferer for some time of lung fever and pneumonia. The remains were taken to their last sad resting place at the Eden Cemetery Monday. This the second and only remaining child the bereaved parents have lost with a month. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the sorrowing parents in this their hour of deepest grief.

 

Larkin, Edwin

Friends here were Informed of the death of Edwin Larkin, a former resident of Maurice, who passed away at his home at Hudson, S. D., Friday, January 16.

Mr. Larkin, who died at the age of 73, leaves a
widow, who resides at Hudson, one daughter, Mrs. Jas. W. Adams of Sioux City, and two sons, Neil of San Francisco, Calif., and Claude of Des Moines, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Survivors besides his parents are two brothers, Tom attending the university at Brookings, and Norman, at home, and three sisters Zoe Ann of Flandreau, SD .Lanna, who attends the University of South Dakota at Vermillion and Marcella at home.

Luella Larson

Death: January 26, 2002
Luella Larson, Hudson, SD, age 86, died Saturday, January 26,2002 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Services were held January 30 at 10:30 a.m., Hudson Lutheran Church with burial at Eden Cemetery in Hudson. Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Luella Larson was born on June 3, 1915 in Saskatchewan, Canada, daughter of Oliver and Hilda (Njos)Kittelson. As a child, Luella helped on the homestead farm. The Kittelson family moved to Sioux Falls, SD area when Luella was 6 years old. They farmed near Colton, SD. Luella met Clarence Larson at a dance in Hudson, SD, and they were later married on June 1, 1940 in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
Together they farmed in the Hudson area. They enjoyed square dancing and playing cards and were very active in the local Lutheran Church. Clarence died on September 17,1967.


Luella remained very active, working at Coast-to-Coast in Hawarden, Iowa and the Colonial Manor of Hudson. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. Luella moved to Mallard point Senior Living in November 2000.


Surviving relatives include one son and his wife, Duane and Cathy Larson of Hudson; 2 daughters and their husbands, Donna and Tom Manske of Rochester, MN, Dianne and David Barton of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 2 brothers and their wives: Harvey and Dolly Kittelson of Canova, SD and Glen and Maria Elena Kittelson of Corona, CA; 4 sisters: Bea Husman of Canton, SD, Hazel Eggleston of San Bernardino, CA, Lois Schulte of Sioux Falls, SD and Norma and her husband Cecil Crawford of Canton; 7 grandchildren: Michelle and husband Scott Neal of Buffalo,NY. Jill Manske of Ecuador, S. America, Amanda Larson of Hudson, Scott Manske of Minneapolis, MN, Jason Barton and wife Stephanie of Phoenix, AZ, and Sarah Barton of Knoxville, TN; 2 great-grandchildren: Michele Manske of Minneapolis and Brenden Barton of Knoxville. Luella was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; one son, Dale; 3 brothers.

 

Larson, Theodore

Theodore Larson, 78, of Hudson died Sunday in the Hawarden hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Lutheran Church at Hudson. Rev. E. S. Skaar officiated. Burial was in Eden Cemetery.

Mr. Larson was born May 3, 1880, in Sweden and came to America in 1902. He farmed in the Hudson vicinity until he retired and moved to town.

He is survived by three sons, Palmer, Clarence and Oscar, all of Hudson; two daughters, Mrs. D. A. Bowyer of Rockwell City, Iowa, and Mrs. Sidney G. Brown of Hudson; 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Larson, Theodore J.

Accident Kills Hudson Youth

Theodore J Larson,24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Larson of rural Hudson, a graduate student and teacher at South Dakota State university at Brookings, was killed late Thursday night when a car in which he was a passenger struck a freight train four miles west of Brookings on Highway 14.

Driver of the car was Michael B. Preckel,25, of Montevideo, Minn., a student at the university, who suffered a skull fracture and was listed in critical condition.

Investigating officers said the Chicago and North Western train northbound for Watertown, was slowing to switch tracks when it was hit by the westbound car. The car came to rest 110 feet from the point of impact.

Funeral services for Mr. Larson were held at 2 o'clock Monday at the Hudson Lutheran church, Rev.Oliver Everson officiating. Burial was at Eden cemetery there.

He was born March 6,1943 at Hudson and was graduated from Hudson high school. He graduated from South Dakota State university and was taking post-graduate work and also taught at the university.

 

Funeral services for Oscar Loe sr.,64, of Hudson former Hawarden business man, were held Sunday July 3, at the Congregational church in Hudson. Rev. David Graham officiating. Graveside rites were conducted by Jeptha lodge No 121 A.F. and A.M. and also by Bergstrom Bodeen Post No 128 of the Hudson American Legion. Burial was at the Eden cemetery.

Mr. Loe eldest child of Ole and Sina Loe was born near Hudson September 9, 1895. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church but later transferred his membership to the Congregational church which he served as head usher and usher on call up to the time of his recent illness.

He married Ita Schaber May 24, 1922. To this union three children were born. Oscar Hubert, Ita Oleva, (Mrs.Donald Vellek) and Elden Graig. Mr. Loe engaged in farming for a number of years and then entered the implement business at Hawarden. Later he was employed by the state of South Dakota and for several years he worked for the Lincoln county highway department.

When the late Robert Schaber's health failed, Mr. Loe returned to Hudson from his job as mail carrier at Sioux Falls to help at the Hudsonite office. Together with his wife he continued the newspaper for 12 years during the illness and following the death of Mr. Schaber thus keeping the newspaper in the Schaber family for a full 50 years.

He served in France during World War I and was an active member and post adjutant of Bergstrom Bodeen Post No 128 of the American Legion. He was named District Legionnaire of the year in 1959. He was a member and past senior warden of Jeptha Lodge No 121 A F and A M.

In addition to his wife and children, he is surived by his mother Mrs. Sina Loe of Hawarden, three grandchildren, three brothers Arthur Loe of Hudson,Ole Loe of Walker, Minn. and Theodore Loe of Bismarck, ND., seven sisters Mrs. Palma McKee of Hawarden, Mrs. Alma Hudson and Mrs. Clara Anderson both of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Eleanor Rhodes of Dubuque, Iowa., Mrs. Lillian Trudeau of Alcester

Lookins, Fred’s infant

The infant children of Fred Lookins, died Tuesday morning. It had never been well, but it's death proved a great shock to the parents. We extend our heartfelt sympathy. (From newspaper clips it was found that Mrs. Fred Lookins mother was a Mrs. Cross, no further information could be found.)

Borghild "Bo" Lund, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 5,2005 at Hudson Health Care Center. Funeral service was Nov. 9,2005 at Hudson Lutheran Church. Burial was at Eden Cemetery, Hudson. Rev. Mary Fast officiated.

 

Lundstrom, Robert James

RITES HELD FOR DAY OLD BABY

Robert James Lundstrom, day old son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lundstrom of Hudson, died Thursday, October 6. The funeral was held at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Lands Lutheran church with Rev. Erling Frethelm officiating.

The Frazier Funeral home of Hawarden was in charge of burial at the Lands Lutheran cemetery.

Survivors besides the parents include three brothers, Arnold, Dennis and Douglas; one sister, Virginia; and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lundstrom of Hudson and Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson of Canton.
